Angels GM believes team can still make playoffs: 'They're up for the task'

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian is not giving up on his team making the postseason for the first time since 2014. Even though the team is struggling to produce wins despite an all-in approach at the trade deadline, Minasian has faith in a playoff run.

“There’s a lot of baseball to be played, so we’re going to put our best foot forward and I still believe in this team,” Minasian said, according to’s Rhett Bollinger.

“When you look up and down the roster, what we currently have, there’s been a lot of guys purposely who are veteran players who have been through pennant races and have experienced ups and downs that can help with a situation. This is a very motivated team and I think they’re up for the task.”

The Angels are 2-7 in August after loading up with veteran additions at the end of last month. They lost seven in a row after acquiring Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Mike Moustakas, Randal Grichuk, C.J. Cron, Eduardo Escobar, and Dominic Leone, before rebounding to take two of three from the San Francisco Giants.

Minasian believes his team has righted the ship and can keep things steady, especially with Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe expected to return soon.

“We have 46 games left and I’m looking forward to seeing how we play over those 46,” Minasian said. “Obviously, we went through a stretch where we had some close games we just didn’t win. I think the last two nights we won games against a really good team and hopefully that carries over.”

The Angels entered play Friday 10.5 games out of first place in the American League West and 6.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the AL’s final wild-card spot.
