Astros making changes to batter's eye at Minute Maid Park

The Houston Astros are making changes to the batter’s eye at Minute Maid Park, a team spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.

Workers at Minute Maid Park spent Friday afternoon adding more green paint to the right of the batter’s eye.

The alterations come after players voiced concerns, with the spokesperson telling Rome that “player feedback” was one of the reasons for the change.

The change is expected to be completed in time for Houston’s series with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.

The Astros have struggled to score at home this season, owning a .732 OPS at Minute Maid Park. That’s a stark contrast to Houston’s performance on the road, as the Astros lead the American League with a .800 OPS.

“It’s like night and day,” an Astros player told Rome of the difference between hitting at Minute Maid Park and on the road.

The Astros mustered just eight runs in their most recent home series, dropping two of three games to the AL-worst Oakland Athletics.

Houston is just 38-37 at home this season. The Astros entered play Saturday with a half game lead over the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West.
