Boone rues Red Sox sweep of slumping Yanks: 'They've kicked our ass'

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone didn’t sugarcoat his team’s play against the Boston Red Sox this season after dropping to 1-8 versus the division rival following Sunday’s sweep.

“They’ve kicked our ass,” Boone said postgame following the 6-5 defeat, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

The Red Sox outscored the Yankees 54-24 over the nine games. New York has also now lost eight consecutive contests, which is the club’s longest losing streak since August 1995.

Boston’s odds of making the playoffs jumped to 15.8%, while New York’s are down to 0.5% following the weekend series, according to FanGraphs.

“We’re in a big hole, though” Boone said, per YES Network. “You can’t even get big picture about it. You just gotta tackle the next day. That’s what we’re in right now. We’re really scuffling.”

New York got a tough break in the eighth inning when Isiah Kiner-Falefa appeared to score the go-ahead run following a hit by Anthony Volpe. However, Kiner-Falefa was ruled out after replay review:

The MLB replay supervisor said postgame that Kiner-Falefa was tagged out before touching home plate, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.

The Yankees are now nine games out of the AL’s final-wild card spot. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are three behind the Seattle Mariners for the last playoff spot.
