Cora says he'll remain with Red Sox in 2024

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora offered some clarity about his future Wednesday with his contract status unresolved.

“I’m good. I’ll be here next year,” Cora told reporters, including the Boston Herald’s Mac Cerullo.

Cora signed a two-year deal before the 2021 campaign that includes club option years in 2023 and 2024.

The manager recently said he would be intrigued by a role overseeing a baseball operations department after Boston dismissed Chaim Bloom, but he admitted it might be too soon for him to step away from managing.

“That’s something that intrigues me,” Cora told The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey on Sept. 15. “I’ve done it before on a lower scale, WBC and winter ball. But it’s something that I think right now, where I’m at, where we’re at as a family, it’s too soon to start talking about it.”

Boston is 438-367 in five seasons with Cora. He was suspended for the 2020 campaign due to his involvement in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.

The Red Sox won their ninth World Series title under Cora in 2018 but finished last in the AL East in 2022 and are on track to do the same this season.

Boston enters Wednesday four games back of the New York Yankees for fourth place in the division with five games remaining.
