Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman sets single-season franchise record with 53rd double

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman notched his 53rd double of the season Friday against the Washington Nationals, giving him the franchise record for doubles in a single season. Here’s what you need to know:

Freeman’s record-breaking double to right came in the top of the fifth inning off Nationals reliever Mason Thompson.
The seven-time All-Star passes Johnny Frederick, who recorded 52 doubles with the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1929 season.
Freeman entered Friday slashing .333/.411/.572 this season with 91 RBIs and 25 home runs.
