Dodgers trading for Red Sox’s Kiké Hernández, per sources: Why Los Angeles sought a reunion

The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Boston Red Sox utility player Kiké Hernández in exchange for pitchers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman and $2.5 million, major-league sources told The Athletic on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

The veteran Hernández, 31, previously played for the Dodgers from 2015 through 2020.
He originally signed with the Red Sox on a two-year deal ahead of the 2021 season, then signed a one-year extension last offseason.
