Houston GM thinks 'Kyle Tucker will be a Houston Astro for his career'

Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown is confident outfielder Kyle Tucker will spend his entire career with the organization.

“Well, let’s say this, Kyle Tucker will be a Houston Astro for his career,” Brown said during an appearance Wednesday on SportsTalk 790.

“I think he really wants to stay here. I think we’ll get something done. We are focused on getting to the postseason, winning the division, getting deep into the postseason right now, but at the end of the day, we feel strongly that we’ll get something done.”

Brown’s comments come one day after Tucker hit a game-winning grand slam in the ninth inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles. The blast was another highlight in an impeccable campaign for the two-time All-Star, who’s hitting .297/.377/.512 with 20 home runs, 28 doubles, 82 RBIs, and 24 steals.

The six-year veteran has spent his entire career with the Astros since being selected fifth overall in the 2015 draft.

Tucker has two more seasons on his contract after 2023 before hitting free agency. Houston owner Jim Crane has been hesitant about handing out contracts longer than six years, but that’s likely what it’ll take to keep the 26-year-old in the Lonestar State for his career.

“We have Tucker for a couple more years,” Brown said. “We feel strongly about getting it done. Tucker loves being here. We’ll deal with the agent, and we’ll get something done at some point.”
