Machado unhappy with Pirates after HBP: 'People don't respect people anymore'

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado was not pleased with the Pittsburgh Pirates after he felt they intentionally hit him with a pitch following a Juan Soto home run.

“I guess people don’t respect people anymore … 300 pumps in the show, 10 years plus,” Machado said after the Padres’ 5-1 win on Tuesday, according to MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell. “But it is what it is. Ain’t no worry. We got the win which is the most important part, and nothing was broken. So we’re good.”

Machado was hit in the back by Pirates left-hander Angel Perdomo. In the previous at-bat, the hurler allowed a long home run to Soto, who took a long time to begin his home-run trot after he glared into the night sky at his work.

Perdomo and Pirates manager Derek Shelton were ejected from the game following the hit-by-pitch.

Machado admitted things might have gotten more heated when he was younger, but said the best way to handle the situation was to secure the victory.

“I guess I’m maturing a little bit in some way, shape or form. Catch me a couple years before, may still be out there,” Machado said.
