Mets’ Justin Verlander rethinking future with team after Max Scherzer trade

NEW YORK — For weeks, Justin Verlander has reiterated his commitment to the Mets and his hopes of winning a championship in Queens. Even after his last start, Verlander quipped that he didn’t sign a one-year deal with the club.
But hours after the Mets made their trade of Max Scherzer official Sunday, Verlander said he has to rethink that commitment given the uncertain direction of the franchise in 2024.
