MLB places Dodgers' Urías on indefinite administrative leave

Major League Baseball officially placed Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías on paid administrative leave until further notice, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

Urías was arrested late Sunday night on a felony charge of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

“Per an agreement between MLB and the MLBPA, Julio Urías has been placed on administrative leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation,” the league said in a statement obtained by Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

“The administrative leave, which is effective immediately, is not disciplinary under the joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy. We will refrain from further comment until the appropriate time.”

The Dodgers are replacing Urías’ scheduled bobblehead night on Sept. 21 with another promotion for “select premium bobbleheads,” according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez.

“The Dodgers take all allegations of this kind in this case very seriously, and we do not condone or excuse any acts of domestic violence,” the team said in a statement. “We are fully cooperating with MLB’s investigation and support MLB’s and the commissioner’s enforcement of the policy. The Dodgers will have no further comment at this time.”

Urías was arrested in May 2019 for domestic battery. He was never charged but was subsequently suspended by MLB for 20 games.
