Padres' Suarez ejected after foreign-substance inspection

San Diego Padres reliever Robert Suarez was tossed in the eighth inning following a foreign-substance inspection by umpires during Wednesday’s game against the Miami Marlins.

Suarez didn’t throw a single pitch prior to his ejection:

Crew chief Todd Tichenor said postgame that Suarez’s left wrist area was “too sticky, very sticky, and he was ejected,” according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com.

However, the right-hander said he just used the regular amount of sunscreen he does during day games.

“I definitely don’t use any illegal substances,” Suarez added.

Any pitcher ejected for using a foreign substance faces an automatic 10-game suspension. Suarez would also have the right to appeal any suspension if one is issued.

“I’m just going to explore my options, see what options I have, and go from there,” Suarez said when asked if he would appeal.
