Phillies eliminate Braves for 2nd straight year, will face D-Backs in NLCS

The Philadelphia Phillies eliminated the Atlanta Braves in the division series for a second straight season, winning Game 4 of their NLDS 3-1 at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies will now face the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLCS beginning Monday in Philadelphia.

Atlanta rallied in the ninth when Marcell Ozuna and Sean Murphy opened the inning with singles off reliever Gregory Soto. Phillies manager Rob Thomson then summoned Matt Strahm from the bullpen, and the left-hander left both runners stranded to send the 104-win Braves home. Strahm struck out pinch-hitter Vaughn Grissom to clinch the series.

Philadelphia hit 11 home runs during the series while holding the vaunted Braves offense that tied the record for homers in a single season to only eight runs in four games.

The fewest runs the Braves scored in ANY 4-game span during the entire regular season season was 9.

The Phillies held them to 8 runs in their 4-game NLDS victory.

Nick Castellanos led the way offensively for the Phillies with two home runs, to become the first player with back-to-back multi-homer games in playoff history, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com. Trea Turner, meanwhile, hit the game-winning homer in the sixth and went 4-for-4, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.
