ALTOONA, Pa. — Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Paul Skenes, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, was pulled before the end of the first inning in his debut with Double-A Altoona Curve on Saturday. Here’s what you need to know:
Skenes allowed two walks, three hits and four earned runs in his first start, only recording two outs before being replaced. He exited with runners on second and third.
The 21-year-old threw 16 strikes and 17 balls. Both of his recorded outs were strikeouts.
Altoona came back to win 9-8, so Skenes didn’t get the loss
