Rendon has fractured tibia, unsure why Angels didn't announce injury

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon said Friday that he’s been out since early July with a fractured tibia, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Rendon added that he found out about the fracture a few weeks ago. He was originally diagnosed with a shin contusion and said he doesn’t know why the Angels didn’t announce the injury.

“You gotta ask them,” Rendon said when asked why the medical update wasn’t publicly disclosed.

Four doctors told the 33-year-old that he had a deep bone bruise before a fifth diagnosed him with a fractured tibia, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

“We talked about when he did it, how bad the bone bruise was, that it’s similar to even what a fracture is,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said Friday. “Bone bruise, fracture, either way, he’s unable to play right now, and we’re trying to get him back to where he is.”

Rendon’s agent, Scott Boras, said the player’s doctors and the team’s staff have been on the same page with his recovery plan.

However, the former All-Star’s status is uncertain for the remainder of the season.

Rendon has played in just 200 games over four years due to multiple ailments since signing a seven-year, $245-million contract in December 2019.
