Report: Pirates will listen to offers for All-Star closer Bednar

The Pittsburgh Pirates are notifying opponents that they’d listen to offers for All-Star closer David Bednar, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Pirates understand Bednar will be difficult to move, Heyman adds. The right-hander is under team control through the 2026 campaign and has three years of arbitration remaining beyond this season.

Bednar has blossomed into one of the league’s elite relievers since joining the Pirates in 2021 following a brief stint with the San Diego Padres. The 28-year-old has authored a 2.08 ERA and 2.42 FIP over 151 1/3 innings while recording 41 saves with Pittsburgh. This season has been his finest yet, with a 1.15 ERA and 1.98 FIP over 38 appearances with 19 saves.

The Pirates were a surprise contender out of the gate but have since faded. They now sit last in the NL Central at 43-56, 11.5 games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.
