Report: Red Sox open to trade offers for Verdugo

The Boston Red Sox are willing to listen to trade offers for outfielder Alex Verdugo, sources told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam.

The Red Sox reportedly reached out to one American League team to see if they’d be interested in acquiring Verdugo.

The 27-year-old has one more year of arbitration eligibility before he’s expected to hit free agency following the 2024 campaign.

Boston acquired Verdugo from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the blockbuster Mookie Betts trade in 2020.

Verdugo owns a .284/.343/.424 slash line with 37 home runs and 191 RBIs in parts of four seasons with the Red Sox.

Verdugo said Sunday that he and the club haven’t engaged in any negotiations on a new contract.

“I want to stay with the Red Sox. I want to be here,” Verdugo said. “But at the end of the day, it’s a business, and all I have to do is go out and play.”

Verdugo owns a .769 OPS with seven home runs, 27 doubles, and 39 RBIs across 94 games for the Red Sox this season.

Boston entered play Monday with a 56-49 record and trail the Toronto Blue Jays by 2.5 games for the final wild-card spot in the American League.
