Yankees' Stanton laments recent stretch: 'I didn't do my part'

Amid the worst season of his 14-year MLB career, New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton says he feels like he let his team down.

Stanton is on pace to post career worst marks for a full season in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, and home runs.

“I didn’t do my part at an important moment in the season,” Stanton said Saturday, according to Dan Martin of the New York Post.

The former Silver Slugger is hitting just .206 with 38 strikeouts over his last 30 games as the Yankees have fallen way back in the playoff picture.

Stanton, 33, has four years remaining on the 13-year, $325-million contract he signed when he was a member of the Miami Marlins.

The five-time All-Star is trying to take the few positives from this year and disregard all the shortcomings as he heads into the offseason.

“Changes? There have been plenty of (expletive) changes,” Stanton said. “It’s more about take the good and throw everything else as (expletive) deep in the ocean as possible and move forward.”

Stanton entered play Sunday with 19 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .722 OPS over 79 games for the Yankees this season.
