Stanton feeling ‘frustration’ with Yankees close to playoff elimination

The New York Yankees are close to being eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2016 following Wednesday’s 6-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, and slugger Giancarlo Stanton feels irked by his poor play.

“Frustration,” the five-time All-Star replied when asked to describe his feelings about his inconsistency at the plate.

Stanton is in the midst of a career-worst season, slashing .190/.276/.426 with 24 home runs and 58 RBIs for the Bronx Bombers, who exited Yankee Stadium with a 76-76 record following Wednesday’s loss. New York hasn’t finished with a losing record since 1992.

“Terrible,” Stanton said about seeing his statistics on the scoreboard before every at-bat.

He added, “A lot of things I’ve got to work and adjust on, but if you guys think I’m just showing up and going out there and not working, then I don’t know what to tell you.”

The 33-year-old remains under contract with the Yankees for four more seasons beyond this campaign, with an option year in 2028. He’s guaranteed $118 million following this season.
